What is a fire damper?
A fire damper is a piece of equipment that is designed to stop a fire from moving through ducting and spreading to other parts of the building. They mostly have a link that melts with the heat, causing the damper to close.
Why Should fire dampers be tested?
Not only is it a requirement to comply with British Standard BS 9999 But testing fire dampers can also save lives ensuring they are working and fit for purpose.
How often should fire dampers be tested?
According to the updated BS 9999:2017 all fire dampers should be drop tested, cleaned and maintained at least every year.
Who should test fire dampers?
Fire dampers should only be tested by the experts, someone who is trained and competent in what they are doing. you should always check they have the certifications to prove their competence.
